By volume our Sun is 1000000 timers bigger than the Earth…The sun in turn is 2100 times smaller than VY Canis Majoris - the largest star in the universe. Or to put in differently…It would take over 7,000,000,000,000,000 (7 quadrillion) Earths to fill the volume of VY Canis Majoris.

The Sun with its 8 circling planets is a star in a galaxy (a cluster of stars) called The Milky Way. Number of stars in The Milky Way - 300 billion. How many galaxies are there in the observable universe? Around 100 billion.
Total number of stars in the observable universe: 300 billion x 100 billion = 30 sextillion.
Here’s a huge (!) image of a small part of the observable part of the universe…every single bright dot is a galaxy.
As if that’s not silly enough listen to this:
Almost every object observable from the Earth seems to be made of matter rather than antimatter. Many scientists believe that this preponderance of matter over antimatter (known as baryon asymmetry) is the result of an imbalance in the production of matter and antimatter particles in the early universe, in a process called baryogenesis. The amount of matter presently observable in the universe only requires an imbalance in the early universe on the order of one extra matter particle per billion matter-antimatter particle pairs.
…or in plain English…the observable part of the universe is the result of the formation of 1000000001 matter particles for every 1000000000 antimatter particle formed.
Loco!
And now to something completely different:

Holy smokes…wouldn’t that be cool!!!!
Respected Scientists, I want to know “Is Big Bang a Truth or Fallacy? How this universe started ?(if it was not always there)and more so why? what was the starting cause and what was before this universe not existed? Sirs, Kindly give me a suitable reply, please and I’m obliged for ever.
Regards, JKR
How do you count all the stars in space?
Good question Pritam…I believe they surveying a small patch of the sky and the multiply…but that’s just me guessing
To know how the universe and all the stars etc came into existance. Read the first chapter of Bible. It is easy.
“To know how the universe and all the stars etc came into existance. Read the first chapter of Bible. It is easy.”
…easy to read indeed and complete utter laughable non-sense. But…I respect your conviction…just like one must respect people who believe in unicorns, elfs, Bigfoot and Nessie…
it’s cool na. the sky,the universe
1st to JKR- The “Big Bang Theory” hasn’t happened yet. It will not happen until God destroys this curent heaven and earth and creates a new one. Hope that helps.
2nd to Madsen-”…easy to read indeed and complete utter laughable non-sense. But…I respect your conviction…just like one must respect people who believe in First of all you are showing your ignorance, No disres[ect intended. The reason you can’t understand it and that it is non-sense to you is that you ae not saved by our one and only Saviour and have repented to the LORD God and you cannot understand the Bible scripture without the Holy Spirit to guide you. It will be total nonsense. I am sorry for you and even though don’t know you or your real name, God does and I will pray that someday, before it is too late that you will come to God and understand these truths.
@Rhonda: How convienient! If I feel the Bible is utter nonsense it’s because the The Holy Spirit isn’t guiding me?! What an easy way to handle criticism. The Bible is full of contradictions…read it and you’ll see.
Madsen in reply to ur comment, isnt it easy to dismiss the bible despite the fact you have no actual opposing argument, just a lack of faith and understanding. It may supprise u but most ‘Christians’ spend much of their time reading the bible meditating on the words and learning.
Perhaps next time u wish to enter into a discussion regarding faith and/or theory u bring some formulated argument that consists of more than ” I dont believe what u believe but I believe your wrong, umm no I dont know what I believe” cos that pretty much sums up ur entire ‘arguement’ Ignorance is never an excuse for empty meaningless ‘gum flapping’ “now go forth and MULTIPLY” ur words into something cohesive !
Hi Dee…Thx for your comment. I do have opposing arguments, I just didn’t write them in my comment…Actually I don’t know where to start really. I could start with the concept of Hell…A place of eternal pain and suffering…eternal punishment…where nonbelievers and unrepentant sinners will burn…not for 5 minutes…not for a year…no…they will burn in all eternity…if we’re to believe what the Bible says and what most Christians are told again and again. I’d like to tell you about a friend of mine…She’s a doctor and works for the Médecins Sans Frontières organization…which means she travels to most dangerous places on the face of the planet to help people in need (risking her own life). She’s also incredibly kind and sweet…tolerant…hospitable…careing…she’s just kind to everyone she meets…you know…a really really good person in every sense of the word. But…she’s an atheist…She doesn’t talk about it, but if someone asks she’ll tell them she doesn’t believe in a divine being…According to Christian beliefs…after she dies…after helping (and saving) who knows how many people…after living a life of doing good and being on heck of good person…she’ll burn in Hell in all eternity! Why? Not because of what she did towards her fellow human beings! Because she didn’t BELIEVE! Why is that so important? Why isn’t it enough (for God), that she did good and was a sweet, caring and good person? And does the punishment equal the “crime”…ehhh…no! You’ll probably tell me, that we’re all born sinners, so that even though she was a good person, she was also a sinner…and ohh…Jesus took her sins upon him and therefore she…well…better believe in him…she owns him that much right?! The concept of sin, hell, paradise, condemnation and what have we, are manufactured so to speak…manmade…to scare people into believing…nothing else…
I could go on and on and on…the list is literally endless…virgin births…coming back from the dead…miraculous cures…Noahs Ark…etc etc…
Here you go…you asked for something more cohesive…
thats a very usual misconception. noone ‘earns’ a place in heaven as hard as it maybe for anyone to accept the ONLY requirement for ‘getting into heaven’ is acceptance of Jesus. I wont bore u with the reams of quotes but the Bible shows more than once we are ’saved’ by Gods love and grace not by ‘works’. Entrance into heaven is really the only true example of ‘a free lunch’ everything else costs something. God makes no demands except repent and be baptised.
It also shows us to respect the God given ‘free will’ its ur God given right to believe what u like as it is mine.
Respecting people who believe in ‘virgin births and Unicorns should be no more difficult to accept than people who believe in evolution and ‘missing links’ each to their own and all deserving of respect.
I would also like to thank your friend for her giving nature, she has made her life a life worth living, sadly not everyone can or will do the same. regardless of ’spiritual belief system’, she is amazing!
And thank you for the reply
God saves us because of his love and grace…as long as we believe in him? Why would that be important to an omnipotent deity…that I or any other believe in his existance? The notion that you can live your life as an evil bastard, then repent and live to eternity, while your fellow human being who lives a good and decent life, but is a nonbeliever goes to Hell to be tormented for all eternity is just absurd. You really didn’t address what I wrote earlier…Is it fair…or is it a benevolent God who decides not to save a good person (a person like my friend I mentioned earlier) just because that individual doesn’t believe in Him (or Her)?
Regarding respecting other peoples beliefs…No problem with that…as long they (people of faith) respect people who doesn’t believe or people who chooses to live their lives as they feel is right…e.g. repect their right to chose their own partner (man/man, man/woman, woman/woman)…people who choses to have premarital sex and what not. Now that’s hardly the case is it? Nonbelievers or people who deviate from the “right path” are constantly oppressed and brutalized by people of faith for not living up to a certain set of rules…I’ve travelled through the US Midwest a couple of times…the “Bible Belt” where evangelical Christians stand very strong…Let me just say I’ve heard a lot of hate speaches from these people.
I respect that some people believe in elfs, unicorn, The Christian God, astrology etc…I see them as equally plausible…there’s as much evidence for the exsistence of elfs as there is for The Christian God.
You can prove that multiple changes in inherited traits occur in populations over time…therefore it makes sense to “believe” in evolution…just like it makes sense to believe in gravity.
I’ll let my friend (Inge) know you said thanks
She is indeed doing an incredible job…A couple of years ago she and two other doctors travelled to a very poor rural part of Bolivia to work for a year…When the year had passed the infant mortality rate in that region had dropped by 50%…Just how awesome is that?!
Thx for dropping by and contributing…appreciated!
P.S. Please disregard bad spelling and bad grammar…English is not my mother tongue….
Which is older the sun or canis majoris???????
Hey Madsen,
I read the posts above and I wanted to say a few things.
I turned 17 2 months ago and I have to say that my life has been a spiritual growth. I admire your argument and respect your opinions, but i would appreciate it if you hear me out.
First thing,
the beautiful thing about the church is that it’s for the broken and lost.
If you were perfect, why would you need someone to watch over you, protect you, love you?
it doesnt make sense for a perfect being to need something so heres my question
are you perfect?
Another problem with us as humans is that we can never be satisfied with the materialistic things.
Have you ever bought something and wanted something else afterwards?
That’s life and you will continue to search for something that will satisfy your heart’s desires and until you find it, you will continue to seek. But i know im pretty satisfied with Christ’s love for me. That he died on the cross for my sins.
This doesn’t mean that I’m perfect and sinless. I’m still a sinful person and I need someone to teach me to take the right path. And that person has been Christ. My life has become so different and my mentality has changed drastically. I used to live for myself and did things so i can get things in return, but honestly i realized that i was just being selfish. After meeting Christ, I realized life is not about me, but its about knowing Christ and glorifying him and enjoying his presence forever. If I’m in a tough situation i can still smile and rejoice because I know Christ is by my side cheering me on and giving me strength when I want to just kill myself. There has been multiple times where life seemed so bad that i didnt know why i bothered living. No one could get to me and my mind was heading towards death. I was slowly dying on the inside, but then one day i saw the light and it revealed to me how sinful I was. All the times i lied and cheated and just moved on with life. After i repented and met Christ in a vision, all my burdens were lifted up and I became this new person. Life seemed more meaningful and I wanted to help people who were struggling. Now when I grow up I wanna go out and help the poverty and spread Christ’s love to those who’ve felt lonely and useless like I have. I cant say that Im going to be there for every poor person on this planet, but I know Christ can because He’s big enough. That’s my story.
Continuing off with some of the previous topics mentioned.
People can’t prove evolution and the big bang theory just as much as I can’t prove that God created the earth and miraculous events.
However, i know so many people who’ve been healed under God’s name and their life hasnt been the same ever since. Sure you can argue that evolution is believable because there are inherited traits and maybe Darwin’s research on the islands that he went to, but even that doesnt prove that evolution has occurred. For all we know, those birds could have been like that since the beginning of time. We can say that they are the same exact birds with different beak patterns, but we can also say that they are different birds with very similar traits.
Also I would like to point out that if God isnt real then why are people dying for His name sake? So many countries kill Christians but why? If you truly believe that there is no God then why are there people who dont believe in God taking the time to pay attention to Christians and their actions. Why are people who believe in Christ being targeted when people who believe in elves and unicorns are not?
So you can’t say that believing in God and believing in unicorns is the same thing. You obviously understand that believing in unicorns is a laughing matter but are Christians (who are people) being murdered a laughing matter? Im sure you can see where I’m getting at.
I’m a christian and Im sorry for the actions of my fellow believers. I know that there have been many times where people claim to be christian and commit cruel actions in order to convert people and gave hate speeches. Not every christian truly knows God’s love. I know that I would never force someone to believe in my God. Ive heard some sick things about people who claim to be christian and become self righteous and punish others. I agree that’s completely wrong and unnecessary in my opinion.
I know earlier i mentioned how I want to become a missionary. I want to become a missionary who suffers with the poor so I can understand them and be with the broken and lost. My life is good right now but I wanna give that up for the sake of sharing Christ’s love.
I don’t know if you will ever come back to this site based on the last comment made by becky and how there was no response.
But i applaud you for the information that you’ve provide because there are pastors out there who use this information to speak about how great our God is.
it says in the bible that
“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made,
their starry host by the breath of his mouth.” -Psalms 33:6
If you have time check out this site

check out the questions section and maybe something will spark (:
also the videos are an eye opener too (:
I just want to end by saying
please have an open mind
and dont jump into accusations when talking to people.
I noticed that you attacked Thompson with your words and i saw that as unnecessary. Please how old are you? I mean after a certain age people learn and understand the meaning of tolerance, but i did not sense any tolerance in the way you responded to him.
I for one agree with Thompson and as you might have noticed there were a few others.
As for your arguments, I did not see anyone agree and support your opinions. If your going to make an argument, dont be angry, just state your points, because if you bring emotion into the debate you’ve already lost.
Also, i admire your friend so much and hope she continues to bless others through her altruistic works.
Hi James
Thx for your comment…I’ll return with a reply soon…New Year and all
So, I realize that this thread has become quite cold; but I decided I was going to write this anyway so here it goes…
To all of you who are so grounded in religion, let me ask you this: why?
I have attended private catholic schools almost my entire life from Trinity Christian Elementary School to St. Xavier HS to Crespi Carmelite HS. I have studied the word of God almost my ENTIRE life, and if anyone ends up reading this post and questions the legitimacy of that statement feel free to quiz me if you feel that would provide you with the proof you need. (yes, I can quote scripture) The reason I ask WHY you are so grounded in religion is because I wonder if you have ever questioned it yourself? Why do you believe in God? I want you to seriously consider it. Is it because it gives your existence meaning? Is it because other people believe? If YOU were to have one day stumbled across the Holy Bible and you were the very first person to have ever read it, would you STILL hold so strong to your convictions of its legitimacy?
I know it may seem like I am attacking Christianity right now, and for that I apologize, it is truly not my intention. The truth is I believe religion is one of the most important things we have on this tiny little planet of ours. It gives us a reason to lead a good moral life. It helps people through severe hardships and most of all it gives an explanation as to WHY we are here. However, people who use religion as a crutch are people who have no true understanding of it in the first place. The Holy Bible was written by MAN, not God. It might also be worth noting that the scriptures in the New Testament were not even written by those giving their account (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John etc.) AND there were many accounts that were left OUT of the Holy Bible; one of which described in more detail how the Kingdom of Haven resides within ALL of us and brought forth the idea that the worship of God in church is less of a necessity, more of a hobby. (Mainly because you are free to worship God wherever you are, you do not HAVE to be in a church to pray) The Universe has been proven to be 13 BILLION years old, yet people who are religious believe the earth is only 6000 years old. Evolution has been proven to exist (yes, actually it has) yet people who are religious believe we all came from the same two people who were created by God in his image. Also, it is worth mentioning that the story of Noah and the Ark is quite literally the most impossible concept in the Bible and I am taking into consideration that people were raised from the dead. I say all of this because I take offense to the idea that people are too lazy to actually UNDERSTAND what the Holy Bible’s purpose is. It is NOT a history book; rather a book full of teachings and parables intended to get people to understand certain concepts in morality and justice. People who use the Holy Bible to hate are so ignorant it baffles me as to how they even handle the concept of religion in the fist place (hating homosexuals, hating other peoples of different faiths etc).
So, I say all of that to say this; Yes, God does exist. And no, God does not exist…
I will explain what that means exactly. In a sense; yes, God is very much existing and very much real. There is no point or reason to believe or not believe because God will continue existing no matter what. However, the idea that people have of WHAT God is is so ridiculously misconceived that in THAT essence, no; “he” does not exist. God is nothing more than our sense of consciousness. Period. If you are reading this right now, then that makes you conscious. If you are conscious, then you are assured that God exists. (God is nothing more than consciousness itself) When this universe was created; consciousness (God) was also created. If you were to go into a brain surgeons office today and ask him to find your consciousness he would look at you and laugh. That is because we as HUMANS have no idea WHAT consciousness is, nor do we know where it comes from. We just know it is there, it is the “feeling” of being in the here and now. Compared to the age of our world, much less the age of our universe, these bodies that we reside in are so indescribably insignificant that it brings into question WHY we are here at all. WHY are we experiencing these lives to begin with? Our egos dictate the idea that we are important; that the lives we have hold some meaning in some way. It is also our ego that drives us to attempt to explain our own existence in the first place, as if we would ever be able to do so with certainty. It is our ego that drives us to be selfish, and it is our ego that wants to believe we live on “forever” in some form because it is scared of the idea that it will one day cease to exist itself.
The Kingdom of Haven DOES reside in all of us, just not exactly in the way you may imagine. We are all part of the same whole. Each “individual” is indeed just that, but what makes us unique is the fact that we are all conscious beings. We have the ability to question our existence making us… well, different.
All of you who are religious, I encourage you to read through the New Testament once again. Take a very objective look at what Jesus was really trying to say… We are ALL children of God (we are all the same) Love thy neighbor as thy self (we are all the same). Now look at some other religious views; Hindus believe in a concept called “Maya” which basically states that the material world you live in is nothing more than an illusion. No, not like Siegfried and Roy making a tiger disappear, but the notion that this little world we reside in currently has an ultimate affect on what we ACTUALLY are… Being conscious is nothing more than actively OBSERVING a life-form. The greatest illusion in the world is the idea that WE have some affect on this world; but the simple truth is we don’t. When the body you reside in finally draws it’s last breath, it is my belief that your consciousness then returns to its usual state of being; reuniting with itself (or God, if you would rather call it that) but now again I am getting into my own personal beliefs that are based in no provable fact. Sorry.
I suppose my whole point is we as humans need to somehow try and come together, instead of constantly finding different ways to separate ourselves. (Religion, gender, race, politics, wealth etc.) These things do nothing more than to help fuel our egos. It is a hard thing to do no doubt, but I think if you take the time to really consider your existence, what it TRULY is; then you have taken that first step towards true enlightenment. (Or, you could just blow this off as a bunch of non-sense and go back to your normal day-to-day lol
)
