Yesterday a sculpture by the Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti (aka Mr. Artsy Fartsy) was sold at an auction in London for a staggering $104.3 million…that one-hundred-and-four million three-hundred thousand dollars
The sculpture named “Bronze junk looking like a skinny ass walking anorectic man” “L’Homme qui marche 1″ was created back in 1961…
In other news:
(can’t decide which picture to chose…there’s so many…hmmm)

1. GDP pr. capita for the African nation of Burundi has slipped to an abysmal $100…
2. Three billion people live on less than $2.50 a day…which must cover clothing, medicine, education, food, housing etc…
3. According to UNICEF, 25000 children die each day due to poverty…that’s 17 children a minute.
4. The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined.
5. Cost of basic education for all $6 a year
Cost of water and sanitation for all $9 a year
Cost of basic health and nutrition $13 year
6. Last year Europeans spent $11 billion on…ice cream.
“Hmmm…I’ve got $104.3 million to spend…hmmm…what would be good thing to spend this absurd amount of money on…hmmm…”
I know…I’m stating the bloody obvious, but still…shakes head.

This really makes one wonder why humans we act like we do….
Madsen, I do not think you’re being fair. If anybody or anything questions the absurdity of life it is Alberto Giacometti and the other surrealists. In that sense it is of course ironical that someone pays a lot of money for his work, but you should blame the art business and not Alberto Giacometti - you’re barking up the wrong tree here.
Calling this remarkable artist “Artsy Fartsy” is in my humble opinion a clumsy insult.
BTW - your new blog design is great.
Aghh…shute…sorry…my point didn’t came through clear then…I hold nothing against Giacometti or the other surrealists…actually I find their work incredibly cool…And hey…I’m all for artists getting a good pay for the artwork they create…My point was, that I feel sick to my stomac that someone would rather spend half a billion kroner ($104 mio) on a 6 feet bronze sculpture (nomatter how unique it might be), than try to do something good with it…A few weeks ago, we saw Haiti destroyed…and now, while the dust still haven’t cleared yet from the earthquake, some asshole decides to fork over and absurd amount of money for an arkwork, instead of helping those in desperate need.
So it IS the art industry I’m barking at…
P.S. Glad you like the new design…I believe it’s much easier to read.
So glad I misunderstood you there
Just saw Poul Erik Tøjner called global art business “et kapitalistisk totalteater” (capitalistic performance art) and I couldn’t agree more.
PS.
