Interesting. As with any other war I guess only the stronger part can initiate the peace process.
As far as I know the allied forces and the democratically elected Afghan government have tried multiple times to reach out to the taliban…They have been urged to disarm and partake in democratic process…In reality the allied had accepted the fact that the taliban aren’t going to go away…The Taliban have rejected every offerings…basically stating it’s their way or no way…And we all know what that means in regards to human rights…not to speak of womens rights.
I’m no fan of taliban or any other fundamentalistic religion of sorts, but it it still obvious to me, that allied forces seen from taliban point of view is an occupying power and that they themselves are freedom fighters.
And still: Forcing people to democracy seems like a contradiction in terms to mee
Absolutely…Can’t force the talibans to partake in a democratic process…they’ve been given an offer but have turned it down….fighting continues.
The allied troops can, of course, pull out and leave the afghan people to their own fate and hope for their sake the taliban won’t regain power…which is sadly what’s most likely to happen.
You cannot create democracy by applying external force. (invasion occupation and so forth) democracy comes from within a society or it does not come at all.
I dont even think you can create an efficient or just vestern style state centralized democracy in a society which functions through clan structures rather than state structures..
A democracy fittet for a clan society would be a totally different kind of democracy and with much much more decentralized structures of power.
